Cloud Storage

The internet has drastically changed the IT industry. It not only connects a person with the world, but it also introduces new features every year. In the last decade, “cloud” was a new term tossed in the market, and soon it gained so much popularity that it now covers a large area of the industry.

With everything from hard disk failures to malware attacks to worry about, backing up your digital data has never been more important. For a long time, copying your data to an external hard disk drive was the least time-consuming and most cost-effective way to back up data.

But the storage landscape has changed dramatically in recent years with Cloud Storage.

While very popular these days, the term “cloud” is used very loosely to refer to what is really just files and folders hosted on a remote server and accessed via the Internet. So, when you hear someone speaking of uploading files to the “cloud,” what they are actually saying is that they are using their Internet connection to copy or transfer data to a machine located somewhere else.

What is Cloud Storage?

Cloud Storage is technology that allows you to save files in storage, and then access those files via the Cloud. Let's break down this definition. First,  the Cloud represents the Internet. Any service, including storage, available over the Internet, is called Cloud service. If you use GMAIL it is email in the Cloud, if you use an Amazon MP3 player, that's music in the Cloud.

The second part of storage is the computer's ability to save files and other resources for later use. When you restart a computer, the files that are still available after the computer turns back on are saved and read from storage. Such storage commonly consists of a hard drive, a USB Flash drive, or another type of drive.

In technical terms,

Cloud storage is a cloud computing model that stores data on the Internet through a cloud computing provider who manages and operates data storage as a service.

HOW DOES CLOUD STORAGE WORKS?

Cloud storage works on a client-server model, in which a client sends the request to the subscribed cloud service storage and the server at the data center gives the appropriate response. The main objective of the cloud, instead of saving data at local storage, the data of the user can be collected at some data center so the user could retrieve his or her data from any device.

What if the data center of the cloud service provider collapses or gets destroyed, would the user data also be destroyed? The answer is no. Cloud storage depends on hundreds of data centers, so even if one of the data centers collapses, there are hundreds of centers that would help you to retrieve and save your data.

PROS AND CONS OF CLOUD STORAGE:

Everything in this world has its advantages and disadvantages. Same in the case of Cloud Storage. Cloud storage has its own advantages and disadvantages.

ADVANTAGES:

  1. The largest benefit of cloud storage is cost saving. It lets you save considerable capital costs because no actual hardware expenditures are required.

  2. One of the main benefits of cloud storage for business is reliability.

  3. The cloud storage infrastructure facilitates extremely convenient and safe communication between employees situated in various geographies.

  4. The cloud has computing space that is nearly infinite. You can easily increase the storage space at any time with very nominal monthly charges.

DISADVANTAGES:

  1. Cloud storage is an inexpensive choice, but it can be expensive if you remember the implementation of the applications.

  2. In cloud storage, good Internet access is a must. Without an internet connection, you can’t get cloud connectivity.

  3.  Cloud Storage providers struggle to provide clients with sufficient assistance.

Examples of Cloud storage.

1.Icedrive

2.pCloud

3.Sync

4.Mega

5.WorkDrive

6.OneDrive

7.Google drive

8.DropBox

9.AmazonDrive

10.Idrive.

From this blog, we learned that cloud storage and services have gained so much popularity in the software industry and now every big tech company has its cloud service. No matter whether it’s a small or big business, everyone requires cloud service to store data because data is the next power weapon.
