INTRODUCTION TO ROBOTICS

“Researchers estimate that by 2040 robots might become as smart as humans”. From the above meme and the fact let’s head on to our topic. Yes, it’s all about robotics. In simple robotics is an intersection of computer science, electronics and mechanical engineering. It deals with design, construction, use of robots that are widely used in many industries which replaces human work. Not only in industries robotics have potential to transform lives and work practices. The term “robots” was coined from a short story by Issac Asimov in 1940. Robots may take any form but most of the robotics engineers give the human appearance. By giving human appearance they can walk, talk and do all the activities which are done by humans. By doing so robots are reducing the work of humans and thus creating the unemployment stage for humans in automobile industries. Issac has given three laws to guide these robotics machines they are:

·         Robots will never harm human beings.

·         Robots will follow instructions given by humans with breaking law one.

·         Robots will protect themselves without breaking other rules.

Robotics has intellectual and mechanical properties. While the overall world of robotics is expanding,

ESSENTIAL  CHARACTERISTICS OF ROBOTS:

1.   MECHANICAL:  A robot needs to be able to move around its environment either through walking on legs or rolling on wheels.

 2.   ELECTRICAL: A robot should be able to power itself. It might be powered through battery, solar power or through electrical circuits so that it gets energy to perform tasks.

 3.   COMPUTER PROGRAMMING: Here intelligence comes into picture. Without the set of code given, a robot will just stay as a simple machine. so the programmer should insert a code of a program so that it gains the ability and knowledge of the task.

LATEST INNOVATION IN ROBOTICS:

Google is planning to produce worker robots with personalities. The technology giant recently won a patent for the ambitious project. Engineers will enable the machines to download personalities from a cloud-based system. The robots have the capacity to store and display multiple personalities when interacting with humansWe will now have a look on;

 Types of robots:

Robots come in all sizes ranging from millimeter to meter long to efficiently carry out tasks which humans can’t do. Generally, there are five types of robots:

·         Pre-programmed robots

·         Humanoid robots

·         Autonomous robots

·         Tele-operated robots

·         Augmenting robots

Technology is playing a vital role in helping humans work more effectively. It is the 21 st century and we cannot work without machines. So there are advantages, but there are disadvantages as well. Lets see.

              PROS                                                                                                 CONS

Robots are fast and work at high speeds                   They create unemployment

Can be used repetitively                                                       Expensive to maintain

They are independent                                                            Dangerous if not controlled

They are accurate and saves time                                       Need power to work

APPLICATIONS OF ROBOTICS:

From the above pros, there are many applications of robots nowadays in almost all the industries you can imagine because of their precision and convenience. Let's see some applications…!!

1.       Military

2.       Underwater exploration

3.       Security

4.       Healthcare

5.       Agriculture

6.       Entertainment

7.       Space exploration

8.       Food preparation

The utilization of robots will bring more technological advancements and profit to certain industries. If ultimately robots would do all the work and the humans will just sit and monitor them, health hazards will increase rapidly. So, till the robots are unable to reach the level of human intelligence, humans will still have a vital role in every workplace. Taking the pros and cons into consideration, use the technology effectively.

Think of the future, will robots rule our daily life??Keep exploring…Hope you liked this blog, share your thoughts and stay engaged for more blogs.
